Hollyhock Remix

with Clayton England (Hyperion Architecture)

post-’s unsubmitted entry to the Los Angeles Low Rise Housing competition reinterprets Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House as an affordable and family-oriented fourplex, while maintaining the original building’s connection to nature and use of compression and release. We chose three masses from the original architecture and arranged them to maximize solar access and passive cooling while framing a central courtyard. The three masses are divided into two unit groupings, each with a main unit and an accessible sister unit that can be used for extended family or as a source of rental income.
